Safer to Reset

If you’re not sure, it’s safer to reset.

I saw this in class the other day. A student got caught in two different spots, and both times waited too long to tap. It wasn’t too serious, but it was enough to have to sit out a round before coming back in.

It’s a good reminder.

If you’re stuck, uncomfortable, and not sure what’s happening, tap.

Not every bad position is a submission. But that doesn’t mean you should stay there and see how much pain you can tolerate. Sometimes people do that instead of making the obvious decision, which is to tap and start again.

Someone is getting stacked, but instead of conceding, they stay there. Pressure builds, and now they’re mad because something hurts. It’s not a smart way to train. It’s thinking very short term, in a long-term game.

The point is to keep training. You only lose when you can’t.
