A little while ago, after class, a blue belt visitor said to the group, “That school is OK if you’re just a hobbyist.” He was referring a notable competition school with a long list of champions. It was said in a way to be an insult, because he’d just enrolled in a school run by a successful competitor, though I can’t remember the name he dropped.

I thought it was interesting to hear that, considering our school is geared toward hobbyists, and he himself was a hobbyist who’s never competed.

And just yesterday, I read an Instagram comment by some random white belt, giving advice to a former BJJ champion.

Sometimes, just don’t say anything. (And never read the comments. 🙃)
