Jiu-Jitsu Letter

Start Smaller

When you start training, don’t worry about building the perfect schedule. Just train. Fit it into your life where it fits. Over time, your rhythm will change on its own. When that happens naturally, it’s more likely to last.

A lot of people go too hard too soon. They join and decide they’ll train four days a week. But two of those days were supposed to be spent watching a show, reading a book, or going out with their partner.

The search for perfect makes it easy to feel like this isn’t enough. That disappointment turns into quitting, because they think, “If I can’t train the right way, it’s not worth doing at all.” But even once every two weeks is better than nothing. Getting started matters more than optimizing.

You can’t erase your old routines overnight. Training comes with small adjustments. More laundry. The drive to and from the gym. Shifting meals earlier or later. Moving time with your family around.

At first, don’t change too much. Fit jiu-jitsu into the open spaces of your life. If it’s sustainable, you’ll find yourself training more over time without forcing it.

Start smaller. If you’re at zero days a week, you won’t suddenly make it to four. That’s too big of a change, especially if you already have a full life.

Make jiu-jitsu work for you. Not the other way around.
