Never Fight for Free

From the book, Jiu-Jitsu in the South Zone, 1997-2008:

Realistically, jiu-jitsu is trained under almost ideal conditions. Reality is seldom ideal. Actually, it was Rorion who pointed that out (“A fight isn’t what you want it to be”). Like many real fights, any one of the three participants could have prevented it by not slapping or punching anyone or by taking Gene LeBell’s excellent advice: “Never fight for free.”
