Letting Things Start

If you never let your partner get started on anything, you’ll never get started on anything.

A lot of people get good at early prevention. They shut down grips, kill movement, and smother attempts before they turn into problems. It feels safe and controlled. For a while, it works.

But it also limits you.

When you never allow problems to develop, you don’t practice recovery. You don’t learn what happens when you’re late, slightly out of position, or under real pressure.

There’s a lot to be gained from spending time in bad spots and learning how to get out of them. That’s where confidence comes from, especially when you end up there against your will.
