What happens after you break their arm? The fight may continue. They’ll be weaker now, having one less weapon, but it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get out unscathed.
How do you disengage after an altercation? There is the window of compliance that closes if you break their arm. And what about someone who’s not reacting normally to pain, perhaps due to drugs or alcohol?
Whether you’re at a school that focuses on self-defense or sport, I’d guess that this topic isn’t one that’s discussed much. The sport schools will argue the fact that their students compete means they’re more ready for a real fight. The self-defense schools will argue that their students actually train with strikes, so their students are better prepared.
But what about ending a fight?
We’ve all seen videos of people dropping someone after putting them to sleep with a guillotine. The falling person could’ve died if he landed wrong. How do you stop the fight mid-fight? What if you aren’t able to get to the neck, and somehow ended up with an armbar, and you don’t want to break the arm?
What does your teacher teach you about this?
